Lights on a H Farmall

Hello all I had my H out to night to plow the drive way out had the lights on ( still 6 volt ) Lights come right on a few min. later all went dark got done with the plowing backed into the barn and the volt gage was showing a little higher charge like it was chargeing but no lights could have the fuse went bad? I dont know where to start it has new light blubs but the light switch also controls the genny H/L charge it "seams" to be working ok but no lights never had trouble with the lights not working just like some one shut them off

Most likely the fuse (located on the backside of the light switch) has blown.

I had power TO my "H" lights, but the return was not gonna happen through all those rusty joints. I hose-clamped small green ground wires directly onto the individual light bulb sockets inside the fixtures, then ran the ground wires throuhg drilled holes and down to the battery terminal. Works great.

Dose any one just happen to know the number of that fuse? I will pick a few up when I go in to town latter today

ok dug around the tool bok I found some fuses I did change the fuse and I do have lights and now I do NOT have a charge on the volt gauge the gauge shows a discharge when I have the lights on never did that--- when I first pull the kill switch out the gauge drops a little and when the tractor starts it will go to about the middle of the gauge it sue to go up some to the + now when I turn on the lights the gauge goes to the left to the - I think lost the genny and or the V. R or maybe the cut out I dont know what I do have

You indicate you have the high low charge switch on your H. What that switch does is ground the field of the generator. On low charge it goes through that resistor on the back of light switch. Oh high charge and with lights on the switch grounds the fields directly to ground . So, the switch has to make good contact to the cover, cover has to make good contact to the box in order to complete the connections. Most likely when you replaced the fuse you no longer have a good connection from cover to box. Stick your pocket knife blade between cover and box to see if that makes it charge. If so, you have found your problem. Then clean up the cover and box for contact. I often times run a ground wire from the light switch to a good ground to eliminate all those crappy connections.

Pete 23 thank you I will try that tomorrow as I work 2nd shift and I just walked in the door its tooooo cold out in the barn
