Super A Fan belt Adjustment

Have a 47 Super A that the Fan Belt is starting to be a bit loose. I currently have the radiator off and while it was off I wanted to Tighten the fan belt. I see where there is a nut on the back side of the bracket (between bracket and engine) and also another nut on the fan side of the bracket. I tried to get a box end on the nut on the back side of the bracket to no avail. I did try to loosen the nut on the front side of the bracket and got some movement but did not want to force it. Is the nut on the back side a captive nut and the one on the front side what is intented to be used for tightening and loosing the fan assembly?
I do have two manuals on the Super A, but neither one addresses this.

Basically, you are right. The front "nut" is the shaft & the back nut is captive in the slot.
Loosen the front "nut" & slide the assembly up to tighten the fan belt. The hard part is holding the assy. up while you tighten the shaft.

Good luck;

You should have no trouble holding it up with radiator off. I have a B and I hold it up with a large screw driver lifting on the nut on back side.

The fan belt does not have to be super tight. Just tight enough that it does not slip. Take a look at what your manual says. I think it's something like if you can push the belt in a half inch with your finger it is good. Too tight puts unneeded load on the fan bearing.
