I finally got the radiator off of my H, What"s this tube for, it"s never been connected at the top as long as we"ve had it.

if not a restoration project, you could pretty much just run without it. I would fix it though if restoring. my experience is-antifreeze is messy, and very hard on new paint. maybe sodder it or an equivalent pipe back on.

In that case does anybody have a picture of how it"s supposed to be routed behind the radiator or up through the nose piece?

been along time since I had mine apart. if memory serves me right, it's routed down the shroud side of the radiater between it and the shroud and shroud should indicate where it goes.

If like most I've seen it was soldered to the filler neck beneath the cap and routed over to the left side of the radiator and then down along the left side through a notch in the fan shroud. It was to carry any excess coolant again from the engine and fan area if overfilled or over heated. A lot of them have come detached from it's original location on the filler neck. It can easily be soldered back in place by any competent radiator shop if you are having other repairs done on the radiator. Are you missing the filler neck or is it just not pictured as I don't make it out in your photo, Hal?

Randy, as long as you have that rad cleaned, try a little 400 sanding, 800 sanding and 1500 buffing. You have polished brass tank. We did our Ford hot rods back in the fifties for a cool look.

Never thought about doing that Gordo, I would have just painted it all black. Might do that on this one.
