Loader For 300u

I am looking for a loader for my 300u tractor. What should I be looking for , like what model? I know this is hard on a tractor but it would be used for wood or snow, and not much of that. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

I would think twice about that. I have a complete U-34B loader here. Made specifically for the 300U and 350U tractors. I bought it for my 300U and will eventually put it on the tractor. While picking it up the seller showed me the original manure bucket for it which was sitting behind his barn and he threw that in on the deal. It had been pretty cut up to scavenge the mounting brackets but I am planning on restoring it back. I don't know if IH was ambitious in it's attempts to provide a loader for these tractors or if they just under built the front end. A lot of guys been telling me to watch that I don't damage the steering sector by overloading the front end. I am experienced with loaders and everyone here on our place understands the tractors limitations so I am not worried, plus putting on the small manure bucket will greatly limit capacity. Snow can be VERY heavy. I have moved many tons of it just today with a loader and I can tell you it put quite a strain on the tractor I used. I would not want to do that with my 300U. I am sure there are many that will tell you to run with it and, ultimately, I guess it is up to you. But people I trust have warned me fairly and I now pass that on to you.

If you look on youtube.com and put in International 300 you can see a few of these with loaders. You can ask the owners about problems.I just looked on there and saw a couple 300 tractors with loaders.

Well if you do not have power steering your in for major problem since even with out it they steer very hard with out the loader I know we have one. If this one we have had power steering a loader I have would most likely be on it since it looks like it would fit. Of course another thing is location as to where you are

My dad bought this 300 Utility with a U34 loader back in about 1966 with 1600 hours on it. We have used it for over 45 years cleaning a pole barn and clearing snow in winter. It now has 3800 hours. It does have factory power steering. It has not had any problems over the years. But I never loaded the bucket too much or tried to turn the wheels when it was standing. So I think if they were not abused, they are not that bad a loader tractor. Al

You are dead on about steer when moving! The loader you have is the same one on my tractor. The power steering unit has a hidden oil plug up under the dash board wrap around shell near the back of the unit. You MUST find it and put some hi -tran in it!!!!!!!!!!!!Slowly your steering unit will rip itself apart. It runs out/dry and then one day it don't steer. I think this is on the factory units. Go to the left side of your tractor and squat down a little. Just in front of the battery look about an inch or two down and then a couple of inches toward the front of the tractor. I think it is a 9/16 square plug. FILL IT!!!!! Jeffcat

That's my bucket. You can see how small it is. You could move snow with that if you wanted and not likely overstress anything. Starting to roll a little before turning is pretty much how I have always done it too. Good to hear it works for you. I want that bucket to try to loosen up some packed hay around my kids goat feeder. They drop two mouthfuls before swallowing one.

Dave, Actually my dad built a snow bucket for it that fits over manure bucket. That's what I use in winter to move snow. But snow is pretty lite compared to a bucket full of manure. It no longer is used for loading manure as there has been no animals on the farm for the last 15 years. The home made cab really helps in winter. Al

Jeffcat, I am going to look for that plug. This is the 1st time in 45 years that someone said there is a plug that has to be checked and filled with hy-tran. Never noticed any oil leaking from the unit. Al

You should be looking for a loader that came off a 300U or 350U, that is in good shape, at a good price.

I know, not much help, but if you look around, you don't see many old loaders advertised for sale to begin with. Finding a specific model is like looking for a needle in a haystack. The chances of a specific model of loader coming up for sale in your area, that's in good shape, at a good price, is a long shot. Realistically you could be looking for years, and I'm sure you would rather not take that long.

Unless you're willing to look for a long time, you really need to take what you can get, when you can get it. If it fits, isn't beat to pieces, and isn't priced like it's made of gold, buy it.

Model number is not very useful because most loaders will fit many tractors, using different mounting brackets. If the loader doesn't come with mounting brackets for your specific tractor, it will be almost impossible to find the right loader brackets.

On the other end of the spectrum, any loader can be made to fit with enough time, a torch, a welder, and steel.

Glad I caught you before you left! I picked up a bucket full of snow yesterday that I believe bent a pin in the joint of my loader lift arms. Never had that happen with manure...but we will agree to disagree on which is heavier!

I like the extension on your manure bucket. There was a similar thing made for the bucket and sold by IH. I have one that I picked up with the loader. Pretty slick setup but I am still going to go light on this loader. Every time I call on parts from a 300U the first thing the guy tells me is that the "steering box" is already gone, food for thought. Your Dad is a clever guy.

YUP it busts up the rack which is about 2' wide and 6' long and good luck getting one. Last summer I was out at the Rough and Tumble show in Lancaster county,PA. They have a 350U and when I looked up under the cover you could see the plug was never touched. I found the man who was in charge of the show that year and HE had no idea about it. "We will look at this tonight!"I don't think it is shown in the IT book so that is why I let you know. I think it is very close to looking like the oil fill plug for your hydraulic fluid under the seat.

Jeffcat, I dug out my IT manual for the 300 Utility and the only thing it mentions is "Before making any adjustments, check that the unit is full of gear lubricant". It seems to imply that the gear section of the unit gets maybe 90-140 gear oil. The parts diagram does show a plug in the area you suggested looking for it. Hopefully the weather warms up so I can check this out. Right now here in NE WI we are at 0 degrees at 2:00 PM. Thanks. Al

I had a 300U, it was a great tractor for mowing and 3 pt tools. I put a loader on it, but I did not have power steering. The only aftermarket powersteering was from a company called jackson. I think it was about $1500. The factory power steering I was told was made out of unobtainium... I never used the loader much, with anything in the bucket, it was very difficult to steer. And I used to be a weightlifter!
