farmall m engine weight

If its 'that heavy',your hoist wont lift it.....lol Seriously, about 700-800 lbs(at most).A 1000 pound stand will hold it easily. What about a stand rated the same as your engine hoist? that way,if the hoist will lift it,the stand will support it.

if it helps, I got cheapo lift and stand from harbor freight to do 300u and 350u.
I put the head on when mounted in machine.
so far so good, both roll around as they should on concrete floor
you cant build one from scrape for the price

Dave is right. You cant build one for what HF charges.I would reccomend buying the 2000 lb model. That way you can hang a center section on for a TA job.Once youget a stand, you can hang all sorts of stuff from it.....

I had mine on a farm/fleet eng. stand, don't know the stand rating but it was way over loaded, wouldn't do it again.

I would guess 800 pounds.

I would go with a 2000 pound lift. A lift that is running close to capacity will be jerky when you raise or lower it.

buy the 1000 pound engine stand that everybody sells, mine is a cornwell. bout 300 bucks. Gear driven that turns engine over. Held my m "fitted" block just fine. I put the head on once I was in the tractor. Napa sells them too. I also bought a matco version of one that is 1250 rated and its a china piece of crap. I put a gm 454 or 5.4 ford VVT and it sags.

bet that engine is 1000 lbs if not more , have a small 4x4 cub cadet rated for 1000 lbs lifting cap. and if you dont have someone standing on the back it will tip the tractor , better have a good stand if it is complete , not one made for car engines, it would not be good to see your engine fall to the floor

thanks to everyone for the info I was thinking it was between 800 and 1000 pounds but want to make sure. I found an engine stand on cl that was rated at 750 for 45.00 but I don't think I will chance it ill keep looking for a heavier rated stand

without flywheel...about 600 lbs. don't forget once ready to mount in stand accessories are removed. but you still need a rated stand.
