selling price for Farmall B

After posting and getting several responses, I have a Farmall B tractor, likely 1942, that I need to sell. My husband passed away last Dec and he had the tractor running a month or so before that. It does need a gas tank. I really need to sell it so would like some advice on how much it is worth and what I should ask for it.

My opinion is $800.
They do not have hydraulics
The rear tires are mismatched
The tank is bad
The tin is marginal
It will probably sell at that price but not rapidly Jim

2 things to consider, (1) the area of the country in which you live. these tractors will bring a little more or less. find someone local to ask about price

(2) if the tractor is a Bn it will bring a bit more than if it is a B wide. i am sorry that i do not know how to tell you how to make this determination. one is 7 or 8 inches wider than the other and there were more manufactured.

You might find someone who would use it for small jobs in the condition it is basically in, but that model had no hydraulics and the swinging drawbar assembly is missing. Not a good candidate for mounting a mower under it.

From a restoration stand point, it has over-sized front tires ($120 for new front tires?), needs a muffler ($50?), a new padded seat ($130+), maybe a whole new grill ($200?), drawbar assembly ($150-200), grill bottom ($200+), fuel tank, probably new wires (looks like no lights so might be a crank start), possible engine overhaul, gauges, gaskets (I see lots of leaks)...a person could easily end up with $1500 or more than $2500 if new paint job and good used parts. And then it might be worth $2500 if it"s a B. (BN would bring more depending on lots of things). Rear tires do not look too bad, but might be mismatch (tire prices are horrible).

I guess I"d suggest to sell it as is as some buyers will be able to get it running good enough for their usage. Maybe start at $800, can always go lower, or if you want to get rid of it real soon than take somewhat less. Make sure you get cash for it, don"t take a check; any good person should have no trouble coming to you with $100 dollar bills. You don"t need this problem at this time of your life. And get the cash in your hand before the buyer loads it on his trailer.

I had a BN and these tractors are real fun to drive and very handy for light duty.

I think it is a BN, and I think $800 might be in the neighborhood. I'd try it on craigslist. I've had good luck there with lots of different stuff.
