IH cab on 1066

How quiet is the large IH cab and how good is air conditioning in them on a1066 compared to an 86 series? Thanks DTK.

I am an IH guy and have had both. The 66 series cabs are junk, noisey rattle boxes compared to a 86 series cab.In the summer they are actually quieter with the doors off.About all you can say about them is they keep the wind off of you.The 86's are a pain to get into but with a door shock kit and a good pair of steps they are a lot better. So you can have a door that opens backwards or ride around in a rattle can all day.I know what I liked better.

That pretty much sums it up. 66 to 86, is night and day.

The 66 cab is hot, dusty, and noisy in the summer. It's cold, drafty, and noisy in the winter. Better than nothing by a long shot in the winter, but worse than nothing in the summer.

I'm with the other two. I put an IH Diamond cab off a 66 series on my 806, and it only took a year for me to take it off. It is better than nothing if you do a lot of fall tillage or snow plowing or blowing, but otherwise, they're terrible! -Andy

Boy, I dunno.

Course, I try to keep my tractors in pretty fair condition. Just flat would not be without the factory cabs on my two 66s.

Nope, they are not as nice as the 86s, but just run one for a day without a cab and you'll be begging for one. :>)

My 2¢,

Go buy a 70 or 90 series CASE with a cab. CASE was light years ahead of IH. Both tractor and cab. I know owned IH now am happy CASE owner.

That is a two way street. Customer of ours had a Case in for some repair and we loaned him an IH. He said he much preferred the Case. More power, easier to run. Sold his case to his nephew who said that case was junk. His IH had more power. Would rather run his IH. Put the case on the auction block. I worked on both brands. I say, you have to go with what you are comfortable with or the other brand will be JUNK.

I have a 1466 with factory cab and a 5288 with cab same as 86 cab. I use both tractors to farm with and I pretty much keep them going myself. the air cond. on the 1466 is far superior to 5288. the 5288 cab is a lot quieter. keep all of the foam insulation in both cabs especially the 1466 and be sure to keep cowel blanket on 1466. put the best sound deadening floor mat you can find in each. try to put 1466 on jobs where you don" have to run at full throttle. lol

Allan, I remember you installing a cab onto one of your tractors a few years ago - -seems like you added insulation below floorplate, on cowl in front of steering wheel, etc?
Do you still have photos of what all you did?
I ask, in that an uncle of mine has a 1466 canopy tractor which I wish has a cab with heat & AC.
Or, Email is open if you can send info.

Thanks!
John

Thanks for the input guys, looking for cheap horsepower but would also like some comfort with it. DTK.

This is the tractor John,

Dana mat under the floor board, under the floor mat, wrapped undr the cowl and over the fuel tank and the biggest thing is an exhaust pipe extension (which I still have to put on) and again, dana mat all around inside the factory cowl cover. Nice quiet tractor.

Its hard to say - the newest 66 series tractor is 38 years old - how well does the AC work on anything that old? Much the same way the newest 86 series is 33 years old. How they worked back then has little bearing on how they work today.

Were is the best place to get a upholstery kit for a red cab on a 1066? Also does the cowl cover wrap around the park lock handle and were can I get the little boots for the petals?
