I recently acquired a road gear for my F-20... not sure who manufactured it. I've heard either Behlen or Sears. Anyway, I want to get the big gear off of the input yoke/shaft so I can get it all cleaned up and replace the front seal. I've got the snap ring off the shaft (indicated by the white arrow in the pic below)... it sure appears to me that the gear is threaded onto the shaft, but all methods I've used so far to unscrew the gear have been unsuccessful. Is there a trick to getting the gear off? Heat, maybe? I've been really careful about hammering on anything because the last thing I want to do is knock a tooth off the gear.

look real close , the Behlen I put on my F-30 there is a snap ring at the end and then then the center part comes out , then you can turn it, otherwise you are catching the splines and something will have to break for it to turn. Kind of hard to explain but simple if you have a visual. I will check and see if I have a pic that might help.

this is what I was talking about the upper , snap ring inside, then the inside part pulls out, it catches the splines on original shaft and locks them to the outer part. The outer stub shaft threads on where the original nut would have on that shaft. Yours is probably similar but may not be exactly the same.
