I have a 706IH Deisel and since it got cold I have been fighting something in the hydrolic system. One day It will almost be impossible to shift the range or gear shifters untill somthing in the trans bleeds off and then walla shifts fine. The next no power steering and one can only get 5-10 degrees of steering. Sometimes if its around or above freezing it will warm up and suddely unfreeze and then the transmission problem starts. I was going to put her inside and warm her up change the hydro filter and maybe bleed the lines to the steering motor? Any other Ideas, or things to check???

sounds like you need to adjust your dump valve, change hyd filter and fill hyd oil 5 gal over full, then see how it behaves.

What is a dump valve and where is it? And why 5 gallon over full? I am use to JD and don't understand!

Surch the archives as i have coverd tis over and over again . The dump valve is located on the back side of the MCV valve body and that is located on the center section of the tractor on the left and has linkage to the clutch pedal . Set down and read how to do this and you will be fine . Now as to Bl3eeding out the steering lines ya had best plan on getting new o/rings as if you try and POWER bleed the system more then likely you will blow out the O/Rings . (0% of your problem is contaminated oil and a plugged filter . Always keep several filters and gskt. on hand and change the hyd. filter several times a year.

I believe tractor vet means **90%** of your problem is contaminated oil and a plugged filter.

If the dump valve is not properly adjusted it won't let the transmission "coast" when you push the clutch, which makes it hard to shift.
