setting up of / adjusting an A-C21 mower

I know this is extremly early in the year to ask this question with SNOW still some FEET deep in parts of North America; USA and CANADA;; I have an old A - C 21 Mower which I have had in parts and stored for a number of years. This spring I would like to start reassembling it and set it up for cutting weeds and clean up such like.My owners manual gives very scant informatiion on adjustment of the sectiions to guards. ???? Do any of you have a more accutae set of information other than the following which I quote" There should be perfect sheating between the sections and the ledger plates, that is, the tip of every sectin should lie smoothly on the ledger plate." This to me is nebulus information. Should the two parts be close enough to easily shear a thin piece of paper or should it just bend the paper.
The wording would have made sence to my father since he had worked with mowers all his life on the farm; but not to me who has been away from if for nearly 50 years 1965 till now.
Thank you for all your clear accurate presice information.

I have one of them I want to get adjusted and in good working order also. I'm afraid all the knowledgable "Dads" are gone now most likely it will come to us as we get into it. If you figure the sickle is sharp and in good condition and the guards & ledger plates are also sharp and not to bent up most likely it is going to cut grass if it will cut paper. From my memory we used the mower until it broke all apart and we fixed it and used it more until it needed repair again. People on Implement Forum are bring back the Horse drawn mowers and putting them back to use and they are maybe twice as old as this C21 mower.Cleddy
