450 Engine swap

My buddy has a C-248 engine from a '53 "M" . and wants to put it in a '57 450 , replacing the worn out C-281. Is this swap a drop in ? Hyd pump mounting ? Timing cover ?, you know , all the normal problems ?

A freind of mine repowered a 450 with an M motor several years ago.He said it just bolted right in.He also says that its 'under powered' for a 450,but ok for the haying that he does with it.

super m, much better because it will take the big sleeves whereas the 248 would need to be bored to accept 4-1/8 sleeves if you ever rebuild it. easy swap though

Just curious, and gotta ask the obvious: what's so bad about the C281 that he doesn't rebuild it?
Or, if does install the C264, what is he going to do with the C281?
Thanks!

Governor or the throttle control arm will need changed. To keep the same type ventilation pipe to air cleaner pipe. Use the 450 valve cover, remove the SM tube over the rocker arms, plug the rear hole in head where the pipe went, Put the short nipple from the front top ventilation hole of the 450 head into the M head.
Chances are the 264 was already rebuilt to 281 size in the past.

Well , he has a running 264 just taking up space, and at minimum he will need a sleeve kit and bearings for the 281. Seems logical to me. He's located north of San Diego , Prolly not any help to you ?
