The serial number is 20097 SJ. The block number is a 362743R2 with a C-169 blow it (I guess this means it is a 169 engine). There is also a 6-24-A on the block also.

The last number means it was cast on June 24, 1955. 169 CI is the displacement. I do not recall what the suffix letters on the serial number mean.

How did you know it was 1955? I have the owner's manual with the original delivery sheet checked off and signed. It is dated 1957?

S = equipped with torque amplifier and independent (live) PTO

J = Rockford clutch

Your serial number is near the end of 1955 production (the last one out the door in '55 was #23233).

Incidentally this is consistent with the 6-24-A foundry ("born on") date showing on the block.

1957 noted on the delivery sheet probably means the tractor sat a while in the factory yard or a dealer lot before it got sold.

Yup, they do sit around for a while sometimes... Dad bought a new Super C in March (or maybe early April) of '56 and they quit making them in '54.

Farmall 300 top line serial numbers pictured is for the first tractor serial number assembled at the factory for each month. See the month your tractor serial number falls between. Engine serial numbers are the same way.
