My 560 D had a hard time starting and it was 55 deg. I held the glow plugs for 1 1/2 minutes had to spin for along time to start( never had it start this hard). I also had the block heater plugged in for 1 1/2 hrs. The glow plugs checked good but was thinking on replacing them. I have had this tractor for 3 yrs and don't know its past, it is a strong running tractor and after start up runs smooth. What do yall think do glow plugs get weak with age ? Is it usually easy to pull the glow plugs and where would be the best place to get them?

Are you getting power to the glow plugs? How do you know they're working good? How's the compression? There is definitely something wrong. My 282 powered 656 started at 25* today not plugged in. Only took 45 seconds on the glow plug switch. Granted, I have upgraded to the 7.3L power stroke glow plugs. Might be worth doing to yours. At 55* mine would only need 20 seconds on the glow plug button.

I would check the wires from the gauge to the glow plugs to make sure they aren't damaged. I had that once. If you need glow plugs the case/ih dealer should have them. Also is the motor spinning fast enough? If it isn't it will have a tough time.

If you take all of the wires off the glow plugs & then put them on one at a time, you can check them with the gauge. They all should read about the same. If you have a few dead ones it will make it hard to start. Just make sure the wires are not touching ground when you are testing.

Casey C what is involved in doing the 7.3 up grade? I checked and all glow plugs show to be working tractor was spinning over fast enough. This is the first time it has done this.I would usually put the glow plugs on for 1 1/2 and it would spin over 4 to 5 times and it will start up. The only thing tractor has not been started in about 4 weeks.

You'll need to run a tap in the injector cups or a die across the new glow plugs as the threads are different. Then you'll need to change the end on the wire that attaches to the glow plug. I just built a new harness from scratch myself.
