What size is the nut inside the front pulley on a 281 in a 450? How is the best way to get that sucker off? Can you get in there with a socket?

I believe it is 2 1/2", but not 100 percent sure now. I have used 3/4" drive socket with adapter to 1/2" air impact and that has worked well.
just measure the nut if not sure on size.

That nut is a 2-1/2" hex. You'll probably need to remove the upper bolster assembly to get the socket onto it.

I've had good luck using a 2-1/2", 6 point wheel bearing locknut socket for the crankshaft front nut. Less expensive than a standard forged socket, and entirely adequate for the task.
