When i turn on my lights smoke starts coming from the light switch area but the fuse doesn't blow, is my switch bad? Also amp guage doesn't work is this part of the problem?

Smoke is not good. Pull the cover off the area to get at the switch and wires. There is a resistor on the switch that dims the lights when the switch is in D position. If the resistor is OK, it still gets way hot enough to burn off accumulated trash, dust, dirt. If it appears that the resistor is smoking let it do so.
The only caution is if you wired up extra lights, or put different bulbs in the pans. The resistor and switch are designed for about 70 watts or so, and cannot be used with higher output than stock lamps, or more of them. A relay is needed to make extra lights work, or a separate switch for them alone. Jim
