My MTA frame rails have extra holes in them from a loader, I know someone who has some frame rails from a 400 diesel, do you think they would be the same, and are they tricky to get off?

Thank you for your response.

the 400 diesel frame rails will bolt right up, however they are not the same. there is an extra hole on each frame rail for the diesel engines timming cover and left side has a indentation to make room for the water trap.

If the holes bothered me, then I would support the tractor front and rear with suitable blocking (for safety sake) and remove one frame rail at a time. Weld up the unwanted holes and grind flush with 4.5" grinder and finish with a flap disc using in same said grinder.

Depending on where the unwanted holes are, you might not even need to remove them to weld em up.

Even a 115 wire feeder could easily handle this job. Old buzzbox stick machine could easily do it too.

(Note: Although different; I am assuming SMTA rails are similar in concept to the rails on my Farmall M or Farmall H).

I second rank's idea.If the holes were a (cosmetic) issue,I would weld em shut. That way the ORIGINAL frame rails will remain intact on the tractor.

If you want the same original looking ones for a gas, 400 and 450 gas is the same as the SMTA. Most all from except a early M to 450 will bolt on and work but have some differences. SMTA rails have 6 holes between where the front engine mount bolts go and the front bolster bolts go. Less than 6 came from a SM or M.
