what are the pros and cons of a 184 cub, don't really want to mow but use it in the garden thanks again.

I own 3) 184 lowboys and enjoy using them. That said, they're underpowered by today's standards at only 18hp, are 35 years old, have a non-standard PTO that turns in the wrong direction which means that only implements which are designed for a Cub PTO, can be used in most cases. On the positive, they're fun to drive and use, run inexpensively, used parts are plentiful, and the tractors sell at a modest price. --Lee

A 184 Loboy isn't a very good garden tractor. Unless it already comes with everything for doing a garden, it will be practically useless.

If it doesn't already have the RARE 3pt hitch attachment, you will have a hard time finding one. Category 0 3pt implements are tough to find on the used market as well.

The wide diamond tread turf tires are worthless when you need traction. You will need 8.3x24 agricultural tires and wheels off a standard Cub.

Forget cultivating. Look at how low and squatty it is. Plus cultivators are not available for it, unless you rig them up yourself.

You would be much better off with a regular Cub for your garden. Limited HP is not an issue because the implements are designed for the tractor. Plus the implements are a lot more common than they are for a 184, and much less expensive.

Everything's relative.

Sure, you can find a 3pt hitch in like 5 minutes if you're willing to drive to the ends of the earth to get it, and are willing to pay whatever the seller is asking, and don't care what condition it's in.

The tough part is finding one that's in acceptable shape, within driving range (or close enough to be shipped reasonably, and which the seller is willing to ship), at an acceptable price.

I would go with a 30 - 40 HP tractor with Cat 1 #PH. Everything is available for those size tractors at about the same cost as cub implements, plus you can do a lot more with the extra HP if you ever want to. IMO

Thanks guys for all you input, I bought this tractor from man that owned it 20 years mowed his air strip with it looks really good 3 pt. hitch, belly mower and new 4 ft box blade, hasn't ran in 2 years. it needs throw out bearing and fork has been welded on, so I ordered a new one today. IH dealer says bearing comes as assembly and is 224.00, can you buy this bearing seperate any other place. I bought this tractor pretty cheap so I can spend a little on it. I don't need this tractor to mow with, thought I might use it with my JD 71 planter, I have a 1977 Cub to cultivate with and a zero turn to mow with. thanks again.

Check with Hamilton Bob Cub Parts (hamiltonbobs.com) for parts. I think he has a throwout bearing (bearing only) for $50.
