worm gear nut

Is there a trick to getting the nut for the
steering worm gear off my 400. It is in there real
good! heat?

If it has been in oil as it should be, it should not be rusted. Just get a bigger wrench, preferably a socket for a 3/4 inch breaker bar, if a 1/2 inch won't do it.

If you mean the cast nut on the outside that holds the worm in the housing, a good whack on the corners with a large hammer and a punch (preferably brass) will get it's attention. The end is not shaped well for a socket.
