M head id ,casting numbers. help please.

Where do you find casting numbers on a m head? And then how would you determine what it is? Thank you in advance. Carl.

Casting numbers are on top of the head under the valve cover.

Some common low compression heads are 8777, 8790, 6336,8704.

Two good gasoline heads are 8060 and 8574.

Each of these numbers will be followed by one or two suffix letters.

Probably others that I'm not aware of.

We could not see any numbers. Looks like grinder marks in middle of head by oil feed tube. Is this the right spot? Will try to post picture.

if the original casting numbers are ground off look at top of the right side. they should be stamped there for a factory remanufactured head.
