Ok. I replaced the gaskets like I should have in the first place. Cleaned out the sediment bowl. Cleaned the main jet it was nasty. I have good fuel. The problem stays the same. When I put my hand over the air inlet it tries to stay running. Now where too? It ran great before the manifold came off....
 
Bet when you took things apart you shook up the carb enough to free up dirt and rust so now you have crude in all the jets and all so a good carb soaking and rebuild are in order. You saying it tries to stay running with your hand over the air inlet says clogged up jets and passage ways
 
Carb cleaning time now and i do mean CLEANING . Taken all apart soaked in carb cleaner for HOURS and all passage blowen out with compressed air and sometimes manually cleaned out with either a a torch tip cleaner or number drill bits or torch cleaning drill bits with a pin vice . then blowen out . Then the other thing is how good is your compression of the engine .
 

A very meticulous cleaning is probably in order if the main jet was fouled. Some of those passages are very small and clog easily.

After a good cleaning you might want to consider adding a screen type filter as insurance. Have had good luck with a very fine mesh cleanable see through filter for a couple bucks from Advance Auto.They work well in gravity type fuel feed systems.
 
Good advice just because you can blow air thru doesent mean those passages are totaly clean. I have found crud on the end of drill bits when you would think its clean because you blew air thru.
 
The OEM screen in the sediment bowl is all ya need ya just have to clean out the bowl once in a while .Now if the screen is missing and i have seen that a lot on tractors because it fell out while someone was cleaning the bowl out and did not see it layen there when they put the bowl back on THEN that is when the problems start.
