My nieghbour,s 706 had a weak rear hyd pump . Changed it from a 12 gal to a 17. when started tractor the 3pt went to the top and now wont move . can any one tell us wht we might have done wrong

The repair didn't do anything wrong; however, bouncing that heavy load on the hitch sometime in her recent past did.

The sensing finger has flopped over on the wrong side of the link. Acess thru the center point mount to repair.

Yep ya can put the 17 gallon pump in them no problem , but the problem come in the fact that the Hyd. filter is only made to handle 14 gallon per min. But like Allen said your hitch problem is the draft sensing linkage . To fix remove the top link plate and get a trouble light and look over on the right side you will see and arm hanging down from the top and a arm -lever coming up from the bottom . The one on top is suppose to be behind the one coming up from the bottom . Do Not start turning any screws nuts or bolts , find - make a hook tool to pull the one on top back and around the bottom one . Things in there can be SHARP and the top arm is under heaavy spring pressure , holding the draft control handle back will help and relieve some of the tension. sometimes due to ware the top arm will not stay put and i have had to tack a washer to the bottom arm on the side closest to the rear end housing so if will not slip past .

Not to be changin' the story, but I've put the big pumps on three of my tractors.

The difference is like night and day; very quick, strong hydraulics. Really shows up on a loader.

It is suppose to BUT what if ya get stuck and ya start dragging the tractor out of the mud hole and hit a big rock ?? it gets ripped off . With the guys around here i would never put one on as just about every tractor has a deep mud line up to the axles and sometimes i have to dig mud out from under the platform
Just sayen .

I myself have been stuck so bad one time that i had to step up to get off the 706 . The ground just opened up and down i went , this was with a narrow ft. 706 with a 1000 lbs hanging on the nose while plowing with a set of 4x16 semi mounts . The ft. end went thru with out sinking but when the back tires hit that spot it litterly just dropped out and down she went , the ft. 2 bottoms were buried in the dirt to the cover boards and the back two were sticking up in the air with the tail wheel four feet off the ground. Yep i was stuck . Stuck so bad that a 4840 Deere and a 1086 all with duals and a loaded 3/4 ton F 250 4x4 with chains on all four never even shook it . End up borrowing a buddys 750 Deere dozer with a winch and slid the dozer back till i spun the tracks in to build up a dirt back stop . That wqas a two day get unstuck job . and guess what i did hit a rock with the hyd filter cover and dented it pretty good to the point that i had to get a new cover .

Oh yea it moves more GPM's BUT you are not putting all the fluid thru the filter as it is also opening the bypass . And weren't you the one with plugged filters , just sayen . If you are one of the lucky ones that never gets a tractor STUCK then you could add the double stack filter kit and then you will be able to FILTER all the oil that your sucking thru the filter . The 17 GPM pump was made for BACKHOE LOADER operation Where they ran a 17 GPM pump and a 21 GPM pump. Together . And oh they ran a larger filter also .
