F20 Narrow front

Hello, one of my F20's has a different front spindle. It is set up so that the front wheels are much more sharply angled together. What was the purpose of this and is it unusual? I have not seen another set up this way and wondered if it was a geographical difference, I am in eastern washington. This is on a late narrow tread tractor. No N or other marking on serial number tag or frame rail. Thanks, Mike

Beginning with F20 number FA3355 built on March 2, 1934, a narrow front axle with more camber angle was offered as an option. This was referred to as the narrow crop front axle.

If it's a true 'narrow tread',it will have a N suffix on the sn.My '37 had a HAN suffix.Meaning: High Altitude-Narrow tread.

Yes I realize most are marked with the N if they are narrow. The rest of my narrow tread tractors are stamped. tractor has correct NT drawbar, foot brakes etc. I think that I am the 3rd owner and the rotted tires were BFG checkmark tread that showed very little use. Towards the end of production I wonder if they quit stamping the N? Did you have the picture of the F20 pulling the baler? was it pto driven? how did the tractor handle it? thanks, Mike

Mike, Does it look like this? This is on a Farmall Regular I own. Wheels almost touch at bottom and are about 12 inches between the top.

The tractor handled it well. The hay was light, the '20' could easily handled much heavier hay.It was equiped with the factory pto extention

I"m preetty sure they were listed as a vegetable front end. Made for squeezing down the narrower rows used in vegetable production.

Farmer (me) modification. The aftermarket seat sat too tall.I modified the outfit to be more comfortable.
