F20 front rims

I posted a few days ago about what size tire to put on my tractor. It has the more angled front spindles and the late cast centers with blank rims like an H or M. Mounted up a 5.50 x 16 today and it still was touching the other tire at the bottom. Looks like the rims I have are 5 inch wide rims. Should they be narrower originally? Without going and pulling a rim off of an H can someone tell me if the H wedge mount rims are interchangeable? Would like to put 6.50 x 16 on to keep the tractor level. Thanks, Mike

yes those will fit, I know of at least 3 different styles of front wheels on F-20s that use the demountable blank rim with wedge locks .

Mike, If you have cast center rims the H,M front blank rims wont work as the wedges wont reach them to clamp down and hold. The F20,F30 front cast center took a 4.5 inch blank rim and the H,M took a 4.25 inch rim. I can get you some new 4.5 inch rims if you need some. Dwayne

Dwayne thanks for the pic and the measurement I will dismount the tires today and get a better measurement of my rims. Yes my front spindle looks like the one on your regular. Ever seen one of those spindles with the ihc cast centers? My concern is that the tires touching is going to eat the sidewalls out of whatever tires I mount. Hopefully it will turn out that I just have the wrong rims. Thanks for your help

sorry my bad. Guy that had my F-20 before me used one of the fronts on an M once when they had a flat, never tried it the other way. Didn't realize the H/M rims were narrower.

Mike, I have only saw very few and all had either steel such as mine or cutdowns for wheels. They had an option on the Regular, F20 and F30. It reads in parts book that were actually three different versions for the F20. The 28088D was used right after the duckbill tractors stopped and it is a narrow row crop special serial # 4340 and up. Then there was a 37684D which was the pneumatic tire special narrow row crop. There is something different between them since it listed as pneumatic tire. My guess is somewhere along the way somebody has installed the 28088D in your late F20. It would be interesting if you had a set of steel to see if they would fit better. I know my Regular would not except rubber tires without rubbing as the steel is considerably narrow compared to rubber tires. Of course they offered the narrow row crop version on the duckbill tractors as well with part # 28089D which would have been probably all steel wheel tractors. Interesting conversation.

Mike,
Definitely an unusual front end. When you get the time, could you give us a pic or two of your narrow front end?
Any casting codes or part numbers cast on the bolster?
Do your wheels / rims offer a way of wider spacing, ( like the later h & M ) or do they just go on one way ?

Will try to get pics, will have to read up on how to post them. Non adjustable spacing like the early H and M narrow fronts. Dismounted and cleaned up two of the rims this evening, both were 4.5 x 16 rims. The other one was at least 5" maybe 5.5 inches wide, tire was still holding air so I did not dismount. Heading out in the am to get a F30N to add to the fleet so will not work on this tractor until sunday will get part numbers and pics then. Thanks, Mike
