Farmall C PTO removal

I need to remove the PTO from my 1948 C because it will be in the way of a weight rack. Its in the way because it has another pto that goes off to the side for the belt pulley.
This tractor will be used primarily as a puller so a pto isn't needed. Wont be getting rid of it, I'll store it up in the barn for some day.
I haven't pulled a pto, anything I need to know or just unbolt it?
I know I need to make a cover. Thanks.

I believe it pulls out directly. A good idea to remove it. I advise against putting weight back of the axle as the weight will lighten the front and not add as much traction as it would toward the front. Jim

Weight in back of the axle is needed in long chain pulls.
Around here I pull anything from 36" chain to 10ft depending on the club.
The long chain pulls make it easier to stop big tractors.

If you remove the bolts from the rear, everthing will come out the rear. I'm in the process of replacing the seals in the transmission of a Farmall C and have found a few bad bearings, so I'm taking it a little farther apart then first planned. I thought I had a better picture of where the PTO goes on the rear of this transmission, but I see I did not. I just took these pictures this afternoon, so if you would like to see a picture of something up closer just let me know. I still have to remove the transmission shafts before I start to clean and reassemble. Happy Holidays and Stay warm, my gauge says -4 degrees, right now in Southern Minnesota.

Sounds good. So I'll remove the bolts, the whole pto will come off. There is nothing that will fall inside the tranny or anything?

Jim is right!Put a bar across the tractor just in front of the rear wheels. The wt transfer is best at that location.Hang wts from there, not on the rear.Safer,too.

When I was at my shop today I took some more pictures of the PTO assembly. You have to remove 7 bolts and the whole assembly will come out of the tractor, everything in one piece. No couplers or any other little parts, just one chunk. You talked about making a cover, if you buy a new gasket you would have your pattern, just need to cut the plate to match the outside and drill the seven holes. If you remove just the top 4 bolts the pulley assembly will come off first, and then you could remove the PTO parts.
