Ih 656 ta update

After a good bit of work, we've gotten our 656 split and torn down to our problem. The throw out bearing for the ta clutch is out, the ta clutch is shot with the pressure plate being froze on the shaft. We've only split the tractor from the rear, the engine clutch is newer, and being on the cheap side, (we may be trading up to a 1586) we don't want to split it again if we don't need to. My question is, according to the book, can the shaft that runs through the ta clutch be pulled out rearward to allow us to remove ta clutch straight up and out. If so is there any keys snap rings ect holding it in, we tried pulling it with some decent force and it hasn't budged much

You will have to split it again, some parts will only come out the front end of the TA housing.

That shaft has to be pulled out the front, then you have to pull the TA clutch fork and throwout bearing, unbolt and remove the pressure plate and slide off the driven disc. Then you have to unscrew a large nut off the shaft that holds the clutch backing plate on, then the backing plate will come off and only then can the TA be removed.

Zach Did you not think I knew what I was talking about when I said split at the main clutch. When you go back together if you don't put the Ta on the rear end first you will most liking mess the pilot bearing on the pinion shaft. You will have to protect that bearing some how when you go back together. I don't like a rubber band because the hyd.

Yup, you split it in the wrong place.

If you split it at the bell housing, all the TA clutch stuff comes right out the front.
