Finished painting the 685

I finally got the 685 painted and back together. I bought it 2 years ago and it had spend its entire life as a highway mowing tractor. It came from the factory with orange paint. We split the tractor and put a clutch, rear main, and hydraulic seal in it. We then pressure washed it(hot water) three times. First complete, then without the sheet metal, then with the platform/tank removed. All removable sheetmetal was sandblasted. We used Utech epoxy primer and Utech 3.8 polyurethane. Turned out very nice, but we did have some orange peel. I built a brushguard for the front, and mounted an old towmotor weight on it. The brushguard also has a toolbox mounted to it for extra storage. I put a new muffler on it, and its much quieter than the old rusted out one. We did everything ourselves except the sandblasted. I didn't keep track of everything, but I would say probably 150 hours labor and $2000 in material/parts. The complete color change from orange to red/black was a lot more work than I thought. Just gotta throw in my new Bosch H4 headlights when they show up. The "driver" joined us May 1st....

Now I don't wanna let her sit out. The shed was full most of the summer so she set out. No big deal with the old paint, now I feel bad...

Yep, I hear ya.

I'm gettin' kinda wormy that way myself. Darned red fades so easy in this hot Nebraska sun. :>(

Nice job, looks like new. Great job on the grill guard.

Looks like it has two LH decals?

Was the dash plastic around the cowl and key switch etc black when it was orange? Just curious how the "non red" color schemes were.

685's are great tractors.

Good eye. Yeah, we cheated on the decals. Got tired of trying to get the correct decal. Must have been some parts under the wrong part number so we made it work...
Yes, the dash area was black from the factory.Although when I was scraping off one of the safety stickers on the dash I uncovered some red/orange under it. Not sure if that was part of the plastic or if there was orange under the black from the factory.

I think the base plastic might be orange anyways, we scraped the dash on our 495 where the hydraulic couplers for the loader are (valve body on 2200 loader is right beside the dash) it was orange under the factory red.
