International 276

Hi folks, I don't have much experience with International other than riding on the drawbar of my Grampy's old Super H.

I'm looking at possibly buying a newer tractor than my TE-A20 Ferguson and found a 276 International close to me. The ad states it has a two stage clutch. Does that mean it has live PTO ? I'm needing something to run a rear blower or bush hog and I know my Fergie won't cut it. Any wisdom will be appreciated ! Joe

It has a live PTO in the sense that the clutch controlls both the PTO and the ground travel. There are three positions for the pedal, All the way up engaged PTO and power to trans, 1/3 the way down PTO stop, and all the way down Trans drive stopped. It will also have a PTO on off lever like a regular PTO. Jim

Hi Joe, 276 is a newer version of B-275. It can either be Diesel or Gas. The BD-144 is about 33 PTO HP with glow plug start. The transmission should be 4F-1R with Hi/Lo shift on left side of transmission shifter giving 8F-2R gears. It has live PTO with a 2 stage clutch,
depress clutch 1/2 down transmission stops all the way down stops PTO and transmission. When you depress the clutch 1/2 way down, you will feel sort of neutral spot before it becomes more difficult to depress the clutch all the way down.

Very reliable tractor.

Decent tractor, 276 gas is not as common (at least here) 276 diesel was fairly popular back in the day.

276 might be a little weak to run much of a snow blower, and I think geared fast in R. I put a few hours on a 276 on 14.9-28's with a 1501 loader this month and it seemed to move along pretty good in Low R.

You might be ok with a less than 6 foot blower and a 5' bush hog.

If it has a loader or you plan to put a loader on it, power steering is a must....

Thanks for your replies fella's. I appreciate your input very much. This one has the gas engine but not sure on power steering. Wasn't planning on a loader anytime soon but would come in handy for sure.

276 Gas engine

That's not "too far" from me, bordering province.

No power steering on that one, probably ok with no loader.

I have no experience on gasser parts etc, I was told only one 276 gas was sold new around here and all the rest were diesel. Gas would start nicer in the winter if you did plan to blow snow. The 276 diesel I ran needed plugged in for a while, then wait for glow plugs before touching it off.

Price doesn't seem too bad. Nice that it's painted, just too bad they didn't spring for the correct style decals.

I got a chuckle out of the stick-on numbers and
letters myself. The Minister of War and Finance says
I have to wait until after New Years before deciding
to purchase anything. Though I do like this tractor
I may look for something with a bit more horsepower.
Thanks for your opinions, It's much appreciated.
