I replaced the clutch plate on my 1941 H, and when I put it back together, and stepping in the peddle to stop the clutch and it sticks. I have to step the peddle in before I start the tractor, then put in gear, then once I release the clutch it goes. Then I step down the peddle again and slip it out of gear and everything starts spinning again. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY H???? does it need to be pulled hard and ware the clutch plate down or need a new compression plate or what? im at a loss of ideas!

You can check to see if the pressure plate fingers are adjusted correctly, just by rotating the plate three times, and from underneath checking the gap. Mine works best at a 3/16" gap. Easy to check, easy to re-adjust.

Sorry if this sounds very basic but the friction disc should only usually be installed in a specific orientation. IE one particular side must be against the flywheel, could you have it in backwards? Good luck, Sam

When my SC is going to be setting for a long time, like over winter, I block the clutch pedal down so it isn't stuck when I want to use it. Come to think of it, I better check to see if I got that done this fall before winter set in.

okay the pilot bearing is new, and the disk is in correct because the one I took out I put right beside the one going in, and made sure that it was the same, then I also checked and there is 2/ 32 inch space between the arms and the throw out bearing. could I need a new compression plate? or possibly wait a week of use and it should wear itself down a bit?

Are you 100% sure you have the correct side of the clutch disk to the flywheel?? You can install the disk 2 ways and if you do not have it in the right way funny things happen with the clutch. Also is the throw out bearing new?? Did you have the flywheel turned so it is flat and smooth??

im 110% sure the disk is in the correct way, and the throw out bearing was in good shape, it didn't have any sloppy play. The flywheel was never tampered with. I did this whole operation through the belly pump

Sounds like the clutch is not releasing as it should so maybe you need to do some adjustments. And if you used the old pressure plate the arms maybe bent a tad bit so with the new disk it is not releasing as it should be

That 2/32" clearence you mention is only 1/16". If it was mine, I"d reset the clearance to 3/16", and just see if it helps.

If the PP you used is worn in the pivots and fingers ift can drag. if the new disk gets a little bent it can drag. If the clutch shaft is worn the splines will cause the new clutch to drag as it finds its seat on the splines.. If the splines are it, the new disk can have a little taken off the splines so it can be where the old one ran. Jim

I just finished putting a new compression plate in, and it works good now! the only problem is that the transmission still tries to catch, but I think it just needs a little wear then it will operate properly

That is called a pressure plate just for your info for the future. You also have to remember these transmissions take time to stop spinning part when you shift they are not like car and truck transmission that are made to shift on the fly. Shifting a tractor on the fly is bad unless your going form 4th to 5th on a Farmall and even then you have to learn to catch it just right
