Just picked up a 1950 Super A. Previous owner was up front about the float always sticking. so I have the carb apart and in the process of cleaning it up to rebuild. My problem is I cant get the (seat?) for the float needle out. it is seized to the point i am starting to destroy the slot in the brass. What is the best way to get it out?

I have used one of the impact drivers that you hit with a hammer to get them loose but you have to have a flat tip that fits tight in the seat.

Sneak it in the house and set it in a pot of water. Bring that pot of water to a rolling boil and then pull it out and try to remove the seat. Or if you are to chicken to do that drop it in the carb cleaner and let it soak for 24 hours and try

Old- Chicken? HA! Walked my carb right on in and boiled me up some carb soup. Boiled carb don't smell so good. That seat pop right on out. Got the house smelling fresh again and the pot all cleaned up, all before the wife gets home from work.
Thanks for the help!

Ah so you did sneak in it while she was not home LOL. By boiling it you heated the cast and the brass but they expand differentially so that makes things free up

It worked great. What is the proper way to set the float level. Its a zenith carb. I have read on other forums about adjusting the floats in carbs and don't know what applies to mine. Thanks again

First off you need a good carb kit like say the Walker brand O'Reilly's has. That kit has good pictures of just how to sent the float and with that your better off then I can ever tell you. Even has pictures to show you just how to do it the correct way
