Just found a smta diesel 60006 serial sitting in some trees
Stopped and talked to owner and bought for 600 guess hadn't ran in years but said still loose but all tires shot and he was never goin use it again what should I do to try to get it running again

Cross your fingers. I hear those diesel parts are on the pricey side. I'd love to have one but I know my luck - I'd buy one that needed a new head and everything else.

If it has been sitting I would be pulling the pan off and see what's up. I just never trust a tractor that's been sitting.

Good find, 60004 was the first diesel made so 60006 is probably the second built or third at the most. But 60003 was probably a gas.
Because of a lot of linkages, intake manifold parts, valves and other things that could need freed up. Also fuel system cleaning, bleeding and maybe stuck parts. I recommend getting manuals to help explain everything before starting work.
Aimed to say # 60005 was probably a gas.

The 'rack' could be stuck in the injection pump if it has been sitting as you say. Have seen it happen. Starting valve and switchover linkage free?

We have one of these tractors, but there are many on this site much more knowledgeable than me. Lots of good advice here. I would say that you have way more than $600 in parts. You will have fun messing with it anyway.

first thing is to determine if the engine is free or stuck. drain engine oil. check for contaminates. if free, remove spark plugs and make sure decompression lever is on the gas side so little gas starting valves are open. then blow in some auto trans fluid in each cyl. using an air syphoning gun. this will lube pistons and rings. pull valve cover and check all valves for freeness, and lube them also. adjust valves to .019. go through all fuel system with new filters and clean all lines and sediment bowl. and filter housings, as gunk will be settled on bottoms. drain injection pump oil and fill with fresh engine oil. I like to flush with mystery oil while running on gas before filling with fresh oil. need to check the gas side for spark and clean sediment bowl and carb. do the coolant going over thing. grease water pump, one shot 2 max. you basically have to go over the whole tractor and just do one thing at a time. its not a rush thing as it gets pretty involved to set the linkages as per manual. if exhaust pipe has been covered and engine free pretty good chance to get it going with just some of your time and small parts. also check the compression to see what you have before getting too involved.
they are a good running engine and last good if taken care of. just don't get in a hurry right off the bat and do a stupid thing like pulling it and popping the clutch with it in gear. you will do engine damage and you don't want that on these obsolete engines. parts are sky high.

Thanks to everyone who responded got the smtad home. I installed new fuel and filters and changed oil and filter cleaned the carb and starting tank and tuned up the distributor and it fired up and runs really nice! Bonus to me it has char lynn power steering and steers with 1 finger now I need tires

Very cool find! I disagree with the majority. The engine would probably be in better shape if it was stuck a little. The ones that sat outside and still aren't stuck are usually the worn out ones.
