I have a stage one SH with belly pump.I also have a nonrunning '44 H.It has a genuine MW mag oump.I would like to put on the SH.Will it fit?Or do I need to change timeing gears?Reservoir/valveing I can handle.Just wondering about the rest of the 'conversion'.Thanks, Steve

The M&W pump was designed to work with the stock engine. No front cover or timing gear changes are necessary.

If the ID plate on the pump has 202PX it will fit.
That pump was made for use with a vertical distributor and drive box on the end if not using a mag.

All SH have a different bolt pattern on the front cover than the H. It is about 1/2 bolt hole different. I would suggest trading the M&W for a SH live pump which will fit the pattern. The M&W is (should be) more valuable to someone with an H than the Live SH pump. Jim

Pump mounting holes should be slotted to fit H tractors and later H and SH tractors. M&W used them with a Max pressure relief setting of 1000 PSI with all types of drive gears back in the day.

Did M&W make Live pumps before the transition to the bolt pattern of Mid 1950? If so a 1944 with the M&W might not have a slotted hole for a pattern not invented yet. Jim

Think it was 1948 when the first M&W product the M 9 speed was started. In 1950 or after is when the products they started offering was expanding. Never saw one of the pumps without the dual bolt pattern. That doesn't mean 100% it didn't happen. To check for a dual mounting flange all that's needed is to remove the top outside mounting bolt to see. Even if the holes are not slotted it wouldn't be much trouble to slot with that mounting flange. Also I can see the ID plate on the pump and it would have the pump ID number if readable.
Pumps IH used do have one advantage, they are shorter than the pump shown. IH distributor will work in the standard location.

steve, some years back i bought a brand new in the box m+w live pump at a sale for one of my farmall m's. it had the original instructions still in the box. the top two bolt holes were about half a bolt off for the m. the instructions had you run two bolts in the upper holes, then cut them off and file them flat. then, mount the pump, locate the center of the holes using the pump mount holes and drill and tap new holes. it will allow the pump to be bolted to the old style timing covers. if i remember, i think i used an old valve guide that just fit in the hole so i could stay on center when drilling for the new hole. measure the depth of the old threaded hole on the cover, and then drill the new hole to that depth. what would be advisable, change your camshaft gear to the later style super h gear, the h gear was not as strong. my m ran for a couple years before the old gear let go, and i put a super m gear on it.

whoops, steve my bad. i didnt catch that the pump was on the h, and you were going to the super h with it. there is a good possibility it will bolt right up to the super h if the h had been drilled and re-tapped.

Oops, same here. Sorry about that.

Frankly you've got nothing to lose by trying.
