I have recently purchased a nice Farmall 230. What is the main differance between the 230 and the 200 other than it is newer?

IIRC correctly same engine, but like said above the 230 may have had a bit more power. The transmissions were geared a bit different too

If you really want to dive into the differences order yourself the TC-53B Parts Catalog as it will have both the 200 (mostly a Super C with different sheet metal) and 230 models in the same catalog. In addition it will also contain the parts breakdown for the International Utility and Farmall 240's as well.
There was an earlier thread concerning a fast hitch on a Farmall 230 below a page or two. It dealt with the fast hitch on the 230. From looking at my catalog the fast hitches, if you have one, is significantly different then the 200 as it is more like the later one used on the Farmall 240 and unlike the one which came out on the earlier Super C which was also utilized on the 200. Other then that along with different sheet metal and paint scheme I'm not aware of any significant changes between those models other then possible horsepower variations as previously noted. The photo provided by El Toro in the earlier noted thread appears to me to be a retrofit of an earlier fast hitch from the SC and 200 models onto a 230 which probably was ordered with just a standard drawbar and the hitch was later added somewhere along the way. The back portion of the fast hitch pictured in no ways appears to represent the factory 230 fast hitch in my parts catalog. I don't have a 200 or 230 tractor and don't know where any are close by to check further for this response. My TC-52B Parts Catalog definitely shows the factory installed fast hitches were very different between the 200 and 230, Hal.

Here's a photo of the factory three point on my 230 witch I think is similar to the fast hitch. Not sure of how to post so hope it shows up.

(quoted from post at 18:03:56 12/08/13) I have recently purchased a nice Farmall 230. What is the main differance between the 230 and the 200 other than it is newer?

My understanding from the dealer when Dad bought a new carry-over Super C is the sheet metal was the [u:fe2c9471fa]only[/u:fe2c9471fa] difference from the 200. For the 230, the Touch Control [u:fe2c9471fa]was optional[/u:fe2c9471fa] where it was standard on the SC/200 and was used for the "tilt and pitch" of the Fast Hitch or they could be locked in place... a very slick set-up. The 230 had a couple more ponies and the 240 had a couple more again, all from the C-123 engine. The Fast Hitch on the 230 and 240 were the same except maybe the controls, and the picture of the 230 3 point appears very similar to my 240U and not the best 3 point set-up around at the time.

I have both. Both have 123 engines BUT you cant put a 3 1/4 overbore kit in a 200 and you cannot in the 230 unless you bore the block. For some reason the bottom of the bore on the 230 is tapered and is smaller on the bottom then the top. The RPS is higher on the 230 which gives it a little more HP. The touch control was optional and is better then the standard valves on the 230. 1st gear is a little faster and the 200 (in my opinion) has a better fast hitch. The tube frame has an opening underneath for some reason. Other then that I don't see a difference, both good little tractors. And if your pulling you can legally get 200 more RPM's then a 200. Also one more thing, the head is diffent, has larger valves. The left front corner of the head is square where the 200 is rounded just like the right side

Here are pictures of both fast hitches. One is from my 1956 200, and the other is from my 1957 230. As you can see the 230 with traction control is much, much different than the 200 style...I personally think the 200 style is much more usable, with the tilting feature. It is the same as on our Super C as well.

My fast hitch is like the 230 of eastsiders. I contacted a neighbor who has a 200 that I am going to visit and park the tractors side by side and look over closely the similarities. I will also get the IH parts manual mentioned. Thanks to all that responded to this thread as I am looking forward to using it to pull my grandson around on his sled this winter.
