M rear wheel clamp bolts

Just thought I would pass this intersting note on. I've been working on the 39 M for about 2 yrs.Now working on rear clamp bolt removal and have been unable to get some of the bolts to loosen up at all in the cast wheel.. No amount of pounding with hand sleg hammer and 2by4 will break loose 1 bolt on R. side and 3 on L. side. Using lots of rust breaker spray too.This tractor probably came fm. factory with cone side of cast wheels turned in. (73 yrs.) I like the wheels to be, cone out . More stability and looks a lot better.For yrs. the valve steem has been on the inside and if removing wheel, a little rough getting them off and on over wheel clamps. All this said, today went out to barn to check things and decided to hit one of those wheel bolts. A paint crack showed up and with lots of rust squrting oil and hitting back and forth, bolt finally broke loose and came right out. Temp outside was 25 and 35 in barn. Made me think of putting sleeves for motor in freezer and then slipping them right in. I've never had a torch for heat,but I sure will work on thoes others in this cold weather when this blizzard stops. Never herd this mentioned here, only heat.--- Winter is good time to work on rear wheel Lug Bolts. Cold contracts {Winter}and heat expands {Summer}. Sorry for such a long note. True, cold contracts, but the clamp and the bolt are both the same temperature. The expand/contract thing only works when you're expanding/contracting one of the two parts.

More than anything, I think your patience and diligence were rewarded.

What did your bolt threads look like? Were they dry or wet? Wet means the penetrant got down in there and did its job.

Usually, it doesn't seep in, but you worked on that bolt for months. Normally we just squirt it, slap a wrench on, twist it off, and start cussing.
 
Thanks. That"s also th way I got my steering wheel off; diligence and patience; whanged away, sprayed it, heated it up, whaled away, came back next day, sprayed it, and the day after that, and day after that, put on pullers, left them on overnight, etc,etc, finally one morning she had come loose.
 
Thanks, you guys, for your comeback. I thought I made a scientiffic break trough.. Ha .I feel sure it was the persistance thing at work. The thread was good , but part of bolt on inside of wheel was solid dry rust.No penatrate there. D , thanks for your hello and also Mkirsch and FBH44. Sure not going to be working on those other bolts till a little warmer.Mayby 40 or warmer. I read the problems on here all the time {10 or 12 yrs. now} and feel like I know you guys. The education is great and on going. Got to get the 39 back together pretty soon. At 77 I"m runing out of time . Buck
