My M spare governor is a little different inside, whatsit?

First, let me say I don't know squat about governors, but I'd like to learn. The governor on the left is what the M came with, and it's giving me problems. Responds slowly to rev up, responds slowly to slow down, and will not satisfactorily idle down no matter what I do to the carb.

So just out of curiosity I'm going to drop the spare in to see if there is any difference. If you notice it has a shorter spring lever, and the spring itself is a lot different from what I'm use to seeing. So what do I have here? I'm guessing an earlier version. Surely not aftermarket. What say ye?

The governor is the last major stumbling block I have before I can wind up this project.

TIA and best regards

Patrick Heisler sold the governor kit on the right. Hope its okay because I don't think any of the parts are around for it now.
Also tractor supply and maybe some others at one time sold the same thing.

Hi Dave, when you mentioned Heisler, I got excited and hurried back to the shop and finished wrenching it on. Started it up, and it was like a different tractor. Excellent throttle response from low to high range. If I throttle it down too far it will actually die. Not at all like before. I'm happy now, and can rest and not be worried about it anymore. Like, how do you spell relief. lol The person who last adjusted it must have really known what he was doing.

The funny part about all of this is I bought the governor on ebay for $9.99 plus free shipping back in February. I don't know how it is now, but back then it was a buyers market for used governors, as bunches were being offered. I put it on my watch list, and noticed that no one else wanted to bid on it, due to I guess it's ugly dirty oily appearance. I held back till the last 30 minutes, then pulled the trigger on it, and no one challenged it. I'm thinking the seller really didn't know what he had there.

Thanks a lot Dave and best regards

(quoted from post at 15:25:06 12/03/13) The spring can be replaced as they get weak over time.

Randy

Hi Randy, would you by some chance know who offers this type of spring? The tractor is running fine now, but I wouldn't mind having an extra for backup.

Thank you sir and best regards

Patrick, nothing better then success with a problem resolution - looks like Santa came early in February with your Heisler governor. Thanks for sharing the update and find something to use your new M on today, Hal.

I am pretty sure that you can still get them from CaseIH. I can look up the part number later on.

Randy

Patrick, last year or so I replaced the spring on my
SuperM(the old one broke).Got the new one from
Stiener,OEM or somebooby like that.I dont remember
exactly who...

The part number I found list 357012R1 as the spring. you can double check that on CaseIH's web site.
Around $10 from them or 3rd party as DeltaRed mentioned.
