The lights seem dim on the986 . Alt is charging haven't Ckd anything yet. Any ideas where to start? Bat. Posts? Thanks DTK.

What is the voltage at the lites when turned on then back check to the sw that willshow where the trouble is ground or bad wires.

Agreed.

Old lights get dim - with or without use. Normally they burn out before that happens but if the old owner never worked much past sundown......

If grounds & whatever check out, suspect the diode trio in the alternator. 1 or 2 of the trio sections
could be open. Still charges, but can't put out full current.

I replaced the wiring to the lights on an old tractor once and made a significant improvement. The old wiring was deteriorated and in effect became an in-line resistor.
