Will a Super A Radiator Fit a Farmall A

Will a radiator from a Farmall Super A tractor (hydraulic model) fit a Farmall "A" tractor (non-hydraulic)? I know they have the same engine less hydraulics, so I don't see why not. I looked up the numbers in the Case/IH parts site, but I couldn't make heads or tails of it because there were several part numbers.

The reason I ask is because the only radiator that I have that is on a parts Farmall "A", I broke one of the bottom mounting studs off trying to remove it. So.....I have a pallet of about 5 or 6 radiators and those came off a Super A tractor.

Also, can I fix the "A" radiator myself? I don't have a radiator shop nearby and would like to fix it myself if it is possible. THANKS!

There were 2 styles of A radiators. The later one, with the spring hook hood retainer, is the same as Super A. The early A radiator is made for the Dzus fastener hood and doesn't mix well with the later A or Super A.

Thank you for the info jim and Gene. Maybe I should let a radiator shop repair that one when I have more time to drive to one and wait on it. I think I will just use a Super A radiator for now.

Jim, Could you elaborate on what exactly the spring retainer is you're speaking of? I can't recall what It could be......although I don't recall ever having a Farmall "A" will the dzus fasteners either, so it shouldn't be a problem.

The 1/4 turn fasners used on 1939 and early 40 Farmalls were replaced by a bent wire hook and ramp system that was easier to undo, but far less classy in operation. The front nose piece was held by the Dzus, and later tractors used machine screws. Jim

Look here, 13 and 14 vs. 15 and 17. The radiator and fuel tank are different to work with each type hardware. Sorry about the size of the image, you need to scroll to find the right part of the image.

Not stock but this works for me I broke them bolts before I take a 12 ga. metal about two inches wide x the with of the radiator plus about two inches put a one inch bend on both ends of the metal. Cut the head off of a bolt that fits the mount holes on the tractor then drill one hole in the center of the "cuff." Weld the bolt to cuff then add a little rubber cushion. the cuff keeps radiator from sliding to and from the fan the upper mounts keeps it from sliding side to side

Guys.....I've been looking through my stack of radiators and found a nice looking one that does't leak. It seems to match up (visually) to the radiator on my other Super A tractors, EXCEPT the Lower Hose outlet is located on the right side. What on earth could this fit!?!?!? I know the C-113 and C-123 engines all had the radiator lower hose on the left side. We have never had an IH tractor with a bigger engine than a C-123. The tag on the radiator is rusty and hard to read, but after lightly sanding, I've come up with "IH" and "357956R91". That number doesn't cross to anything on the Case/IH Parts Lookup. Any ideas???

(quoted from post at 03:27:23 12/08/13) Just a guess, maybe it came from a Cub-based power unit.

Bingo!!! THank you Jim. Exactly why I rely on you guys for answers like this. I would have never thought about that but I bet you're right.
