Super H Missing

Was plowing a couple of weeks ago with my
Super H. Was noticing that when it was leveled out and not pulling hard it had a little miss in it every once in a while. It never missed a beat when the govenor was opened up and idles just fine. I don't notice it any other time. Does anyone have any ideas? Do you think it was an ignition problem or fuel? I turned the screw on the bottom of the carb out 1/2 turn thinking it was starving for fuel but that did not help. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

The distributor might have been wet from the plowing. I would pull it hard when it is dry out and see if it continues.

Carbs do not work very well. (they are a continuous compromize. I think it si pretty normal. If it is random and not one cyl, It could be a plug going bad. Jim

My H will flutter sometimes when it is not fully loaded and running up. I think there may be some slop in the distributor bushing.

I really like the coil pack on the 44, no distributor anymore and the timing is programmable.

I had an H that miss fired, new plugs, wires, and points did not help. Put a different ignition on the problem was solved.

I have Autolite, would recommend 386 with distributor or 3116 (I think) with mag. The 386 is a resistor plug.

More then likely you have a little ware in the dist. and is causing point bounce . and fatting up the main load screw could also help . Everybody tries to run to lean .

Just another angle on the problem. I have an Oliver Super 55 that did exactly the same thing. I found it to be number 4 exhaust valve sticking lightly.

Try finding which cylinder is missing at idle by removing and replacing the plug wires until you find the cylinder. Remove the valve cover. While the tractor is running place the blade of a large flat screw driver in the coil of the valve spring to add tension. If the engine stops skipping, you have found your culprit. It most likely will not be an intake valve or it would be backfiring through the carb.

Hope that helps.
