transmission bearings in an H

since i wanted to go into the rear and trans of my H to "check things out" since it had water in it, i decided to replace all bearings and seals. trouble is the bearings i can get are not the "xtra" load like what is in there. My understanding is the bearing has one less ball in. considering this tractor will only used to pull a wagon or hay rake now and then, will this really made a big difference? would use these in the trans and rear end.

What bearing number are you looking for?
I have some used spares laying around somewhere.
I am out by Raymond Nebraska.

figured i would replace all of them. they really dont "look" all that bad, but all originals and figured while i'm in there i just as well. i just was not sure how the bearings with one less ball would hold up against the heavy duty ones with the extra ball. personally i dont see that it will make much difference since it will probably run and hour a week to run my log splitter and maybe the hay rake this summer.

The heavier bearings are very desirable. You may not be the last owner of the fine tractor. The bearings are available even if they have a different (current) number, as they are of standard sizes. Jim

I count 15 bearing counting pto so a couple hundred dollars don't go very far. I replaced all in one of my H's as it had sat for 15 years and had water in it plus most were worn anyway.
Over the last 50 plus years I have cleaned and inspected a few thousand ball bearings and you can tell if they are serviceable or not if you know what you are looking for. One thing for sure, is they were made out of good material and you don't know for sure what some of them are made of now days. Especially if you get some aftermarket ones. Purity of the material in a bearing is critical along with the process of mfg.

i think i will inspect the bearings first. just cause they are new dont mean they are better. the ones in there now are IH and probably original but if they are good just as well be used.

Gary did you ask at Kelly Supply, they offered the heavy duty and regular duty for a 560 I worked on couple years ago. chris

ya thats where i got the bearings from. they could order the heavier ones but i did not want to wait that long to get it back together.
for no more than what i am gonna do with it, i think the old bearings will work fine the more i think about it. well, except for the one that was gone...
