cutout on Farmall H

Thought I had a cutout on the generator of my H.I'm now in doubt. Generator tests good but can't make it work.Could it be I have a voltage regulator on the generator & just be mistaken?
I put on anew wiring harness so I can't just hook it back up like it was? Yes I polarized it.

Cutouts used a 4 way LHDB light switch while VR tractors only used a 3 way light switch,,,,,,,,,,,Cutout systems wired the Gennys FLD post up to the LHDB switch while if a VR gennys FLD wires to the VR,,,,,,,,,,,A VR is either 4 terminal (BAT ARM FLD LOAD) or 3 terminal (BAT ARM FLD),,,,,,,,,,Cutout relays are either 2 terminal (BAT and GEN) or 3 terminal on tractors with no lights (Bat GEN FLD)

Run my Troubleshooting Procedure especially Para 5 for the full field VR by pass test (to see if Genny or VR is at fault)

Charles - Take the cover off and peek inside the CO/VR. If only a single relay inside it's a cutout; 2 relays makes it voltage regulator.

Or count the terminals: 3 terminals (ARM, BAT and FLD) is a cutout; 4 terminals (adds an "L" terminal) makes it a voltage regulator.

To diagnose the problem I can highly recommend John T's troubleshooting procedure (link)!
John Ts excellent generator troubleshooting procedure

There are later series IH regulators with no L terminal that do have the same three terminals but do have two relays inside. Jim

Quite a few, if not most, of the Farmalls with the 4 position switch were converted long ago to a voltage regulator and rewired so that the 4 position switch is now functional in only 3 positions.
