I am trying to get one started and I need a new battery cable. I don't want to invest in a high price cable till I know if the tractor will run. I have a cable that is long enough but it is only # 6 wire fine strand. Will this work as a temporary fix till I know if it runs. This is the cable that runs from the battery to the starter about 6 feet long. TIA

You need the heavest and shortest one you can find. That one just isnt heavy enough for the starter to do a good job turning engine over.

How about just putting it in 5th gear with the TA lever forward and giving it a pull around the barn until it starts? Experienced drivers required.

I don't own the tractor and I just want to see if I can get it to run so that maybe I can make a deal to buy it. It only has one tire on the rear so it would be hard to pull it to start it. I don't want to spend any money on it unless I buy it, so I want to use what I have laying around.

On these older tractors, if you can get the motor to turn at all, I never seen one that couldn't be made to run again. And many of the ones that don't turn over.

I don't know how long it's sat, but even if you can get the starter to spin there might be something like compression or mag issues that might prevent it from starting.

Why not just use jumper cables?

You don't need to put the battery in the stock location and run the cable through the factory routing to start up a derelict like that.

I'm going to go off on a tangent here and say DO NOT get that tractor running. Prices have this nasty habit of going UP UP UP the moment that engine fires.

If the engine is free and turns over smoothly with some resistance it can be made to run. Drag it up on your trailer and take it home.

Well stated.
