working on my first H. had a noise in trans so
split the tractor to get at the front bearings.
trouble is i dont know how to get the lower shaft
out. the shaft that hooks to the belly pump is
what i"m trying to get out. got the quill loose on
the front bearing but where the belly pump coupler
hooks too is in the way of the bearing quill
coming off. does that coupler come off and if so
how? Normally i work on deere"s and gotta say,
this little H is alot more fun to work on.

Easy answer. it is a right hand thread mounting it to the countershaft. Put a 1/2inch thick hard steel bar in the slot and turn CCW. Lock the trans with brakes and High gear as it will try to move the tractor. Jim

The coupler is threaded on to the shaft. I believe needs to rotate counter clock wise as you look at it. It is not a reverse thread. I had to make a large "screw driver" out of a piece of flat bar to break it loose. It's been on there for quite a few years and could take a bit work to get it off. Good luck.

I forgot to mention the dang things are very tight. some real force is needed and shock as well. Hitting the torquing bar with a hammer is best practice. The one in the pump is removed the same way (but includes jaming the gears of the pump with a brass or aluminum flat stock (lefty loosy) Jim

thank you. i will give that a try tomorrow after work. bearings look good so far, but why not put new ones in while i'm there so thats what i'm doing.
thanks again.

Not sure on what you refer to? If its the coupler shaft to the pump, remove the 2 pins and slide the sleeves and it drops out. Sometimes the sleeves rust and won't slide easy.

Here is a couple pictures of a special tool that I made to unscrew the nut from the countershaft. I remove the shifter lever and shift the transmission into two gears to lock the shafts from turning. good luck

If it's the two-hole coupler I'm thinking of, there's a Woodruff key holding it on. If it's like mine, the key is way tight and won't move. {I think a Woodruff key transmitting all the HP and torque is a bad design, should'a used splines, but ...} I had to invent a pusher, to reach around the arms of the two-hole coupler, over the bolt head, I had to replace the bolt with longer ones, and unscrew the bolt one turn at a time and slowly push the coupler off. Pretty difficult but it works.

OOPs, I just went out to the barn - I didn't describe my pusher correctly. I have two bolts go through the coupler bolt holes, and hold a 3/8" piece of steel across over the big center bolt. I then unscrewed that center bolt, and this contraption pushed the coupler off. S-L-O-W-L=Y.

Take a piece of that 1/2" keystock, weld a nut on to the middle of it, and then put your impact wrench on the nut. That coupler will be off in a flash.

I welded a nut on a scissor jack that was usable but kinda hard to crank by hand but the impact wrench doesn't care.

Go to Sears or wherever they sell those pry bars with the plastic handles. The two footer is just right for levering that drive coupler off of the transmission. It is the perfect size. Make sure you put the transmission in gear and lock the brakes too. Having that resistance will help a lot.
