MD sleeve question

A question about cylinder sleeves for a MD from a friend on mine. He bougtht a set of new 4" sleeves to replace the 3 7/8" sleeves in his engine. He says that the top flange on the 4" sleeves are thinner than on the 3 7/8" sleeves. Is there a shimming washer to go under the flange on the 4" sleeves to make up the difference or what will he need to do?
Thanks
Ken

send them back as the sleeve needs to set flush or even a couple thous higher or there wont be any seal as the head holds them in place.

Does he have the sleeve top flanges that are flat on top? If so they don't protrude above the block but maybe .002 to .006. Can't remember for sure, would need to look it up if that's the type he has. probably the 3-7/8 sleeves protruded more than .010. I get mixed up on this sometimes but think he needs the head gasket 305805R1 or near that number for the flat top 4 inch flanges. If that's what he has.
