super a compression

I have got 120# on all 4 cylinders. Is this within specs? Engine has quite a bit of blow-by, and some oil out oil filler cap. I haven't started taking apart yet, so I don't know what cylinder wall look like. Spark plugs look good without any oil. Maybe valves, head gasket? Any thoughts?

120 is just fine for compression. Change the oil to 15-40 diesel grade Rotella or Delo. With that compression, unless you are loosing coolant, leave it alone. The oil filler cap is the breather, it usually has vapor coming out. Putting the engine under load and working it will likely do wonders. Jim

With that compression, it has something wrong (like ignition timing, or governor issues) those tractors have more power than many in that size group. An analysis is needed, do not throw parts at it. Jim.

remove the plugs and lay them in order on the hood they are probably black i would try some new ones then check fuel mixture is there an adjustable jet on the bottom facing front of he carb if there is one there mite need to turn it in some as just maybe you are running too rich.

That is good compression, I would suspect that timing might be slow. Lack of power is indicative of this.

as Gene and others have alluded to, if you are "running on" that means there is hot carbon in the cylinders. Carbon comes from incomplete combustion. Jim is also right, don't throw parts at this problem until you figure out why it is running rich.

First off, is the air cleaner clean and getting full flow of air. Is the cup plugged with debris? does it have good air flow?

Next, is the carb working properly? is the float sticking open? Is the mixture right? Some of the zenith carbs have a mixture adjustment jet, others have a fixed jet. If you have a "T" screw in the bottom of the fuel bowl, that is the mixture setting. If not, you have a fixed jet. For one thing, make sure that the jet is actually in the carb. I have see a few where they were missing.

Check these things first and figure out why you are running rich. Then we can move on to other things if she doesn't' perk up after getting the fuel mixture right.
