Super MTA continued

Scott is correct, the TA chamber is not filled, and is not intended to have oil in it. the holes are intended to prevent any buildup of oil in that chamber if or when a seal leaks. If the oil was returned, it would be a disaster because it has radical contamination from clutch wear particles and other junk. Jim

Jim; Does it have an upper and lower chamber? There are 2 drain plugs on the botton of the casting. Obviously I am missing something because I had to raise the front of the tractor to get most of the oil to drain back into the transmission. I guess I just don't understand how it is built. Thanks Ellis

IIRC, the drivetrain is in this order:

1. Engine flywheel
2. Clutch disk
3. Pressure plate
4. Transmission input shaft (driven from clutch disk)
5. IPTO drive tube gear (driven from pressure plate, must be lubed)
6. TA clutch mechanism (driven from input shaft, must be dry)
7. Rest of TA (must be lubed).
8. Rest of transmission (must be lubed).

This is why there are chambers. The IPTO gear needs lubrication, but the TA clutch MUST remain dry, and it's located in between the IPTO gear and the rest of the TA.
