1466 draft control problem

we got a 1466 that we cant get the draft control handle to work with the hitch. the 3pt works with the postion lever. we tried to adjustit inside at the torsion bar adjustment and it does'nt do anything.also the draft handle snaps foward by its self even with the friction adjustment fairly tight.the tractor broke the torsion tube so i dont know if the draft worked before or not. cant se anything wrong with the inside linkage(looking up from the bottom with a miror. thanks for any help.
 
How are you adjusting the draft control linkage. The correct way is to have the position control lever lower hitch completely. Then pull draft control lever to about 2 inch's from the top end of slot. Tie it there for now if you must. Hitch should still be down. Then you turn the internal draft control adjustment screw out until hitch starts to raise and it will raise all the way up to it's draft controlled limit. If it does not operate this way, you may be off a spline on handle, or internally assembled wrong. One other thing is where the lower sense arm connect to t he torsion tube it may have been tightened down so it moved to far toward rear of tractor.

Far as lever not staying, it's a problem. IH added an additional spring to counter balance this situation but I can't seem to find it on the parts list as to when it was added.
 
thanks Pete, we got both lever the same place u said. adjusting the screw never changes the 3pt. we,re thinking the the new aftermarket torsion tube is off. i didn,t put it together the farmer did, so i can,t say if it,s together right.
 
I have heard of some of those aftermarket assemblies being indexed wrong so that might very well be your problem. May have to compare to another IH tractor of similar vintage, like 1206 on up to 1486, that has category three hitch.
