Update so far on fast hitch mower

I got my pulley off and it sure enough has a grove for a key in it. Looks like the old one had rusted into nothing but dust a long time ago. I have a pulley with the key in it on one of the parts mowers. Question is how is the best way to remove this without busting it up. I have already broke more bolts off on this project than you can shake a stick at. By the way thanks for all the replies I have enjoyed them.

Thanks for posting your questions and issues!
I just purchased a S.C. with a c-21or 24-p mower like yours and I need to learn about them.
Who knows what problems mine will have.lol

Pull the 4-bolt cover on the opposite side of the gear box .Take a piece of shafting a little smaller than the diameter of the shaft in the center of the lower pulley and drive the shaft and bearings out the other side where the 4-bolt cover is .The 4-bolt cover also has shims on the backside to control the endplay of shaft.

Paul, I got the pages of the part catalog along with an Operator's Manual for a model 21 Fast hitch mower in the mail yesterday and they should be delivered with today's mail per the USPS. The tapered key (Q441) you appear to be missing is listed in the parts catalog as being 5/16" X 5/16" X .278 X 1 3/8". I believe that would indicate it is made from 5/16" stock (thick and height) and tapered down to .278" in height at the other end over the 1 3/8" total length of the key.
Hope you are up and going when you need that mower but you are probably needing a leaf vacuum at present if your place is anything like mine, Hal.

Got all the info you sent on Saturday. Been studying it today. Wow there sure is a lot of adjustments that can be made to these old mowers. I truly admire those that can come up such ideas that have lasted and worked for so many years as this old equipment has. My parts mowers have come apart for the most part easy. But my mower that I am working on its like each nut has been welded to the bolt. I have soaked them and heated them and still have had to either cut or break most of them off. Thank you so much for all the information. I hope someday there is something I can help you with.
Paul
