464 gas trouble

So I have a 464 gas tractor that I have for sale and repaired rim and put new tube and tire back on yesterday when I took it down the road for I little test drive it ran good until I started pulling the hill it would start to back fire and then quite but would fire back up right off then go a bit more then same thing I ended up coming up hill in 3 rd low but could rev right up but when I tried any higher gear it would do same thing back fire seem to push out a little coolant as well and smoke out blow by tube any thoughts
It starts fine seems to run good just acted up when pulling the hill. It will run at speed with 5 foot bush hog without any issue also
Thanks dan

Hi Dan, I have no experience with the 464 gas model only the Diesel models but the first thing I would check is the gas flow out of the fuel tank by removing the gas line at the carb and letting it run into a bucket. If it doesn't flow the full of the gas line pipe chances are there is junk in the bottom of the gas tank restricting the outlet. I don't know if the carb has an inlet fuel filter or not. If there is good gas flow then change all 4 spark plugs.

Hope this helps

Make sure you're getting a full flow of gas from the tank to the carburetor. Hold a clean container to catch the gas. If there's just a trickle of gas you have blockage in the tank.

If you have a full stream of from the tank remove the tube fitting at the carburetor where the gas line connects. There may be a screen behind the tube fitting filled with crud. If that looks ok your carburetor probably needs cleaning and all the jets blown out. If you haven't replaced the points lately I would replace them and the condenser. Take a good flashlight and look in the fuel tank for any crud that may be blocking the outlet. Hal
