6ft or 7ft back blade for an M?

Need some help from you guys who run a back blade behind your M. I'm ordering one tomorrow from everythingattachments.com, they custom make them and they look built to last. The 6ft weights 325lbs and 7ft weights 345lbs. Two questions: Will the Saginaw hitch have a problem lifting these blades? and Which will the M pull better? Mind you I am going up hill at a decent grade for about 800-1000ft and with my tires all the way in the tractors 7ft wide. Thanks for the help, I was looking at the WOODS RB84 but they want $850 and this other blade is $700 with free shipping and looks just as heavy duty. Thanks for the advice, ~Anthony

I have a Farmall M tractor with the standard drawbar and not a 3 point hitch but have used back blades on other 3 point tractors in the past. Any M worth having around will pull a 7' blade with no problem up any hill I have been on with out difficulty. I would recommend an 8' blade to cover the tire marks as your tractor will handle a larger width blade. Those 6' and 7' blades are made for Ford 8N's and similar sized tractors. I would also get a name brand one from someone who will be there when you need replacement parts down the road. I would give considerable thought to the Woods or even a Bush Hog brand before buying some off brand make which will disappear at any time in the near future. Something $150 cheaper with free shipping is being cheapened somewhere which most likely isn't visible in the photos like gage thickness of the metal, length of welds, certification level of the welders, etc. An inexpensive item like a back blade is not where a large saving can be achieved by going cheap. Hope this helps in your decision and satisfaction level in the future, Hal.

I use a 7 foot on one with no trouble and wish it was 8 foot most times. Loose width when angled. One problem with some 8 foot ones is they will contact the hitch or tires if wanting to spin it around backwards, if it has that feature.

I Think an M will have no problems whatsoever with a 7 ft. blade. The Saginaw 3 point should carry that no problem. I'll say this: I have a Rhino 8ft heavy duty blade that used to be used on my 806 (it'll be on the 656 this winter). That blade is one of the ones made to take that 100hp tractor, And I don't know how heavy it is, but I've used it on my 450 with a Fast Hitch moving gravel. It worked just fine. Go for the 7ft, you'll be happy that you did. I should note, that I'm on flat S.E. Mi. ground, I have no hills to contend with while plowing snow, etc. That said, with my experience with my blade and tractor, I wouldn't fear "normal" hills. -Andy

Mine is just like this one but a little bit older.

I found a Side view, mine is identical to the one that says Super Rhino on it.

7' definitly!Or even 8'Make sure its a heavy model.I have a light 7ft,I watch it close because an M will fold it up like a pop can.

If you get an 8 foot you will need lots of rear weight. I use a 7 footer on my M and I don't need weight. I thought that an 8 footer would be the way to go, but I found out otherwise. I run a 16.9 x 38 tire and I still couldn't push or pull with the 8 footer.

325lbs or 345lbs doesn't sound like much of a blade to me.

If all you're doing is pushing around loose gravel, they'll probably hold up okay. If you're trying to scrape/dig, you're going to be sorely disappointed. The M will tear it up.

There's a reason the Bush Hog blade costs more, and frankly I wouldn't quibble over $150 difference to be able to see the blade in person before I bought it.

That online blade might LOOK the same, but if the Bush Hog blade is made from 1/4" plate and the online blade is made from 3/16" plate for example, you're going to regret it.

I have a 8 foot Buhler/Allied blade I use behind a 350 with a fast hitch. It works great, I can stop the tractor cold if I try to take too much. I have used the blade on my 1066 before too. Will stop that tractor too. Make sure it's heavy, cheap ones fold up like everybody else says. I paid $600 for mine. Found it sitting in the weeds behind my local New Holland Dealer brand new and still strapped to the pallet. They didn't even know they had it.
