Best model for a loader?

Ive been collecting old farmalls for the last 5 years or so and have wanted to get into a bigger international. For the purpose of using it with a big bucket on the front and because they are pretty cool!
Recently, our grandparents old home was set fire by a homeless man (we didnt know he was there). We had plans on tearing it down, but this bumped up our time frame.

What would you suggest for a good work tractor. Gas model for sure, and can lift a decent amount.

thanks, Justin

My FIL has a loader on a gas 706. One drawback to this vintage of machine is that when the shift linkage gets old and tired it makes back-and-forth work a bit tedious as the H-L-N-R lever likes to kind of lock up if there is any pressure against the gears. You have to hit the brakes as soon as you clutch to keep the gears loose enough to shift. This is really noticeable on the silage pile or any other time when the tractor wants to roll one way or the other when the clutch is disengaged. It might not an issue if the linkage is in top shape but I have no experience with one in pristine condition.

Just about any of them would do a fine job...Even an M would do,even though it would not have power steering or live pto.BUT, lots have been retrofitted with PS/"live' hydralics. That said:Any 300/350;400/450;460/560;06/56 series tractors are all good.Even the smaller 66 series would do..You just need to decide how much money to spend and find the 'right' tractor....

Whatever model you settle on, you'll want to get the front tires foam-filled or some flat-proof alternative, 'cause otherwise you'll spend more time fixing flats than anything else. Those old nails will find their way in sooner than you'd think. Dont ask how I know.

Any 7/806, 7/856 or 766 would be a great loader tractor. They all can be had in gas and are generally cheaper then the diesel versions.

If you can, try to buy the tractor with the loader already installed. The problem you'll have is that the loader mounting brackets are different depending on which model you end up with, and finding the right loader with the right mounting brackets at the right price within driving distance can be difficult.

It sounds like you don't have months/years to fuss around trying to piece together a machine.

I will agree with Brendon on the 706. I have owned two of them one with a loader and the one I have now does not have a loader. I love the tractor but as for a loader tractor the transmission and shift linkage is very poor. I know they are out there but I also have never operated one with tight shift linkage / transmission. If your wanting a gas tractor a 766 gas would make a good loader tractor.

That isn't loader tractor work. A bucket dozer or excavator is what you would use. I would push it in the hole and burn what is left.

You may be right. It depends on what he's trying to do.

A loader tractor won't work very well to push the remains of the house on a pile. You'll go broke fixing tires if you don't break the tractor in the process.

Thats an easy way to do it with a loader. They you dont have to pay to get rid of it.

Because of the nail-in-tire problems you could be money ahead to hire someone with a crawler/proper equipment to demolish what is left of the house. If the house was insured your insurance might pay for the demolition and cleanup.

I agree with those who suggested buying a tractor and loader as a unit. You can test drive it and that should cost less than buying them seperately.

Would an IH 300, 350, 400, 450, 460, 560, 656 or 756 work for you as a gasoline loader tractor?

As a collector are you only interested in IH loaders the same vintage as the tractor or are you open to other brands of loaders?
