Started wiring my M today, a few questions on grounding.

Now that the M has a fresh coat of paint, I'm scraping paint here and there to be sure I have good ground in certain places. My steering post has got good ground after I saw the head lights come on after running a test wire from the battery. Now my question is, does the 4 position light switch, and the ampmeter, both of which are mounted inside the meter box, also have to be well grounded to the tractor?

I also repainted the gen., and I made sure it was properly grounded when I put it back on. Now I have the cut-out reg.(picture below) that I'm going to touch up a little. Can I assume that the cut-out also has to have a good ground to the tractor? BTW, it mounts directly on the gen.

TIA

The ammeter does not need to be grounded but with a four position switch it must have a good ground to the cover, the cover to the box, the box to the post and all the way back to the battery.

Yes all componets of the charging system need to be grounded. Bes way to check is with a meter pos lead on the meter hooked to where the batt is grounded and then use neg lead of the meter to ALL componets and you will have a good charging system providing gen is good and the cut-out is working. If you need a good working cut-out i do have some. Original Delco-Remy 111676. Also check lites they need good ground.

Thanks Gene. That's good to know. If ever I do need one I'll give you a shout. Mine looks to be OEM, so that would put it at about 64 years old.
Wheather or not it's still functioning properly, I'm not sure just yet. I'll be troubleshooting it later. Thanks for the feedback guys.
